Become a kitesurfing instructor
IKO instructor training at a Pro Centre in Langebaan. The qualification that lets you work at kite schools anywhere in the world.
Why train here
As an IKO Pro Centre we are authorised to run the full instructor pathway, and we run it in one of the most forgiving teaching environments anywhere. Learning to teach on flat, protected water means you can concentrate on the teaching rather than on surviving the conditions — and the skills transfer everywhere afterwards.
An IKO instructor certification is recognised internationally. It is a qualification a lot of people use to fund several years of travel, following the season between hemispheres.
The pathway
Assistant Training Course (ATC) — 5 days
The entry point. You learn the IKO teaching methodology, how to run equipment and safety on the beach, and how to assist on lessons. This alone qualifies you to work as an assistant at an IKO school.
First Aid — 8 hours
A required certification before you can be certified as an instructor. Standard first aid and CPR, oriented towards water-based incidents.
Instructor Training Course (ITC) — 5 days
The full certification. Teaching practice with real students under assessment, risk management, lesson planning and the IKO progression card system. You come out certified to teach independently at IKO schools.

Working with us afterwards
Outstanding candidates on our courses are sometimes offered work with Obsession Kiting directly, at a competitive salary. We would rather hire people we have trained ourselves and whose teaching we have watched than take a CV on trust.
Even if we do not have a position open, an IKO certification from a Pro Centre opens doors at schools worldwide, and we are happy to point good graduates towards schools we know.
Is it for you?
You need to already be a competent, independent rider — this is a teaching qualification, not a way to learn to kite. Beyond that, the people who do well are patient, safety-minded and genuinely enjoy other people's small victories. Being the best rider on the beach matters far less than being able to explain the same thing five different ways.
