Wakeboarding in Langebaan
The answer to a windless day — and the easiest way to learn to foil. Glassy morning water, your own boat and skipper, up to four people sharing the session.
Why wakeboarding works so well here
The wind in Langebaan is an afternoon event. Mornings are usually glass — which is exactly wrong for kitesurfing and exactly right for wakeboarding. A lot of our guests end up doing both in the same day.
It also solves the problem every kitesurfing trip eventually hits: the windless day. Rather than sitting on the beach refreshing a forecast app, you can get out behind the boat instead.
Wakeboarding is also a much faster first success than kitesurfing. Most people who have any board sport background are up and riding within their first few attempts, because the boat provides the pull and you only have to manage your own balance.
How the session works
You get the boat, a skipper and an instructor for the booked time. Up to four people can share it, and you rotate — one person rides while the others sit in the boat. In practice a two-hour booking gives each of four people a decent amount of water time, with rest in between.
All equipment is included: board, bindings, buoyancy vest and a helmet. We always start people on a kiteboard rather than a wakeboard — it is the board you will be riding once the kite goes up, so every minute behind the boat is time spent on the equipment that actually counts.
Learning to foil behind the boat
If you are heading towards foiling, the boat is the easiest way to break the ice. You get up on the foil with the boat providing steady, predictable pull — no kite to fly at the same time, no gusts to read, and an instructor a few metres away telling you what your front foot is doing.
Foiling and kiting are two separate skills, and most people find them far easier learned one at a time. Get the pitch control sorted behind the boat, then add the kite once the foil already feels normal underfoot.

Other things to do when the wind does not play
Wakeboarding is our own answer to a flat day, but Langebaan has plenty more. We keep a running guide to what is on locally — markets, run clubs, swimming groups, the skate park — so you have something better to do than wait.
